who we are Mazon Australia (Mazon means ‘meal’) was established in 1990 as a not-for-profit organization that would provide people within the Australian Jewish community with a vehicle through which to respond to hunger and the causes of hunger. We are guided by the Jewish traditions of tzedakah (acting justly) and tikkun olam (mending the world) to respond to those in need. We see access to a meal as a basic human right and recognise that the complexities of the vision of a world without hunger requires a paradigm shift. Our agenda also includes a focus on the causes of hunger, such as poverty, homelessness, mental illness and a lack of opportunity. Mazon Australia allocates donations from the Jewish community to Australian and international agencies with proven track records of supporting both people within the Jewish and wider communities. We focus on smaller service providers who may not have a national presence and are thus less likely to be able to access funds for their work. The programs we fund include crisis relief, ongoing service provision and advocacy work. Mazon Australia does not carry out projects directly. We direct funds in two ways - one off grants and ongoing partnerships. All donations to Mazon Australia over $2 are tax deductible. Learn more about Mazon Australia by reading our Mission Statement.
