donate now

All donations over $2 to Mazon Australia are tax deductible. Mazon Australia is fundamentally a volunteer organisation using existing office facilities to co-ordinate it’s work. This means our administrative costs are extremely low and your contribution goes to what you expect – poverty alleviation and bringing food to the hungry. Donate Now.

3% contributions

“When you have eaten and are satisfied, give thanks” (Birkhat HaMazon)
While Mazon accepts contributions at any time, the focus of the organisation is to encourage people to donate as part of a simcha (celebration). This provides members of the community with a means of adding social action to a celebration. Traditionally people add 3% to the cost of food at their bar or bat mitzvah, wedding, baby naming or birthday. A donation of 3% means adding

$90 to the $3,000 spent on a simcha
$150 to the $5,000 spent on a simcha
$300 to the $10,000 spent on a simcha

Making a donation at a time of a celebration is one way of giving back to the community and teaching children about these core Jewish values.

annual campaigns

During the times when the Beit HaMikdash (Temple) stood in Jerusalem, people would make pilgrimages at Pesach, Shavuot and Succot to deliver offerings from their harvests. Today we reinterpret the idea. Mazon runs campaigns associated with Pesach, Shavuot and Succot/Rosh Hashana. At these times we encourage members to donate funds to us, but also to organise other food drives for a local organisation through their synagogue.

crisis appeals

At times of crisis Mazon Australia runs special appeals. One such appeal was for funds to support communities devastated by the 2004 Tsunami in South-East Asia another appeal followed the 2005 Pakistan Earthquake.

encourage your synagogue to affiliate

The origins of Mazon are synagogue-based. We encourage every synagogue in Australia and every rabbi to become involved in the fight against poverty and hunger through Mazon Australia. Affiliated synagogues have caried out some of the following activities:

• Organising regular updates on Mazon-related issues and activities. through announcements in synagogue and newsletters.

• Organising food drives associated with festivals, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.Often food is collected for a particular local shelter or soup kitchen.

• Encourage people having a simcha (wedding, bar mitzvah or other event) to spread their joy through a 3% donation to Mazon Australia.
